It's a media thing

Media!  It's everywhere.  I am excited for my Media, Family, and Human Development class.  I will be posting at least two posts per week about media, my thoughts about media, different kinds of media, media, media, and more media.
I needed to do a 24 hour media fast and I did it, and it was an interesting experience.  I thought it would be fairly easy since we don't have t.v. at home and we don't watch movies.  However, focusing on not participating in any media proved to be harder than I thought.  I love music.  I always have the radio on in the car, on campus I always have my earphones in my ear, listening to my favorite tunes.  I also am a Facebook junky.  I have lived many different places, and I love to keep up with my friends that I have made near and far.  I have a really nice Mac computer at home, and I am a web surfer.  I surf the net to read so and so's daily blog, I read the news, and look up interesting ideas for young women activities.  What I realized in doing this fast, is that there is a lot of time wasted on media.  Without the radio, or music constantly in my ears, I found time to think.  Really think.  I noticed that campus is pretty quiet at 8:30 in the morning.  I did not check Facebook or my email.  I did not send any texts outside of my calling as young women's secretary.  And you know what I realized?  The sun still shines, the world still turns, and nothing exploded or imploded when I didn't check Facebook every hour.  It was a really great experiment, one that I will do again.
