When we have talked about media in class, I was surprised when books and art were included, I for sure usually wouldn't categorize those items as media, but they do share a message and the author or artist usually are trying to convey a specific message. Along with that I guess theater would be included as well. I attended the musical "Hairspray" tonight put on by Orem High School and it was really good!! The boy who played the part of Edna did a phenomenal job! Of course I have seen the show before and I know the message of integration and race that is presented, but in light of taking my multicultural america class this semester, and just today talking about school integration in the United States in the 50's and 60's, it was very appropriate that I watch this particular musical today. I am still formulating my ideas and thoughts about American history. There are many things that I don't agree with, but I also know that this country was founded on a belief in God and I am proud to be an American. It's good to think and figure out where you stand and what you believe in, and media is a huge avenue to explore these thoughts and beliefs.
